Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for a Program / Executive Officer, LAC to join our CO team.


Team Purpose

The Programme Delivery department drives the implementation of our strategy by ensuring that programme and advocacy delivery is done right first time – at scale, with impact and quality, on time, on budget and with compliance. We aim to strengthen and enable implementing offices’ ability to work in complex and hostile environments, be more locally-led, smarter in its sourcing, and with a smaller environmental footprint. The department leads comprehensively on the organisation's humanitarian and crisis response strategy, including prioritisation, programme quality, operational delivery and interagency collaboration and influencing.

Role purpose

To support the Regional Director in advocating for children’s rights in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), increasing the region’s visibility on the global agenda, and providing strategic leadership across LAC in alignment with Save the Children’s mandate, strategy, and theory of change.

The role also provides support in the development and implementation of strategic internal communications and external engagement efforts, ensuring alignment with organisational values. It coordinates with regional and global teams to maintain consistent messaging, develops tailored materials, and promotes inclusive and culturally competent communications to support advocacy and fundrainsing efforts.

Additionally, the position provides support managing the Regional Oversights Forums and Internal Coordination Spaces in LAC to enable the Regional Director to focus on critical issues, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment between Global Teams and Country Offices.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Supports the Regional Director in identifying, preparing for, and participating in regional and global platforms that advocate for children’s rights in LAC. This includes drafting advocacy briefs, talking points, summaries of key documents from Save the Children and other organisations, and coordinating with regional and global communications and influencing teams.
  • When delegated, participate inhigh-level strategic forums and engage with key stakeholders, ensuring consistent and informed messaging.
  • Assists the Regional Director in monitoring regional strategic priorities and ensuring alignment with Save the Children’s mandate, strategy, and theory of change. This includes preparing regular monitoring reports on regional priorities, consolidating and synthesising global and regional strategic documents, and supporting regional planning and review processes.
  • Supports the Regional Director in contributing to the diversification of funding sources by preparing briefing materials, summaries on regional priorities and needs, and other strategic documents to inform fundraising efforts. Works in close coordination with the regional Resource Mobilization team to provide timely and relevant information that strengthens engagement with key donors and supports fundraising at country, regional, and cross-border levels.
  • In coordination with the Regional Communication Lead in LAC, drafts and implements comprehensive communication strategies to support the Regional Director with internal communications and in external engagements, ensuring all messages align with organisational values and objectives.
  • Develops tailored communication materials and key messages, including talking points, presentations, and briefing documents, to effectively represent the regional director in external meetings and forums.
  • Ensures all communications respect and promote our diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture, actively incorporating considerations of cultural competency and accessibility.
  • Convene, coordinate and assit in facilitating the Regional Oversights Forums and Internal Coordination Spaces in LAC including coordinating agendas, minute taking, follow up key action items and any other task that enables approprioate coordination between global temas, RD and COs


Experience and Skills

Essential

Experience:

  1. Proficient experience in developing and implementing communication strategies that align with organisational values and objectives.
  2. Significant experience in internal and external communications, involving engagement with various stakeholders, including senior management, partners, and Members, to support organisational goals.
  3. Experience working with global teams: Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across regions and cultures, promoting coordinated communications globally.
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Experience in monitoring the impact and reach of communication efforts and using this data to inform continuous improvement.
  5. Foundational experience in diary scheduling, administrative support, or related roles
  6. Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritise workload effectively to meet deadlines

Skills:

  1. Excellent Written and Verbal Communication: The ability to craft clear, compelling, and impactful messages tailored to diverse audiences is critical.
  2. Adaptability and Flexibility: Being responsive and adaptable to the changing needs and priorities of the organisation and the external environment.
  3. Analytical Skills: Capability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communications and suggest improvements based on data and feedback.
  4. Project Management: Proficiency in managing projects, including timelines, resources, and deliverables, ensuring that communication strategies are effectively implemented.
  5. English and Spanish proficiency is a must


Education and Qualifications

Essential

Education:

  • Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field: This foundational degree supports the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge for the role.
  • Postgraduate qualifications or specialised certifications in communications or a related field are desirable but not mandatory.


Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications in communications, marketing, public relations, or similar.
  • Training in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI): Ensuring the role holder is equipped to uphold and promote diverse, equitable, and inclusive communication practices, as outlined by SCI's policies.
