Business Need / Purpose of Role:

The Liner Accountant is responsible for maintaining and controlling the general ledger so that it properly reflects the financial position of the company.


Ensures that the accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory and Company policies and procedures currently responsible for different countries and currencies.

Assigns, directs and reviews revenue & overheads accounting staff.


Key Accountabilities:

  • The Liner Accountant - Central America region will be responsible: Mexico - Panama - Guyana - TT and Colombia liner business.
  • Work together and coordinate the activities with the AR, AP and GL team.
  • Full interaction with Local, Regional Finance and FOPS in Chennai – India.
  • Verifying revenues and expenses related to maritime freight, ensuring that the amounts reflected in the accounting records are accurate.
  • Review of freight charges with BLs (Bill of Lading) analyzing and validating the freight charges associated with bills of lading, comparing rates and agreed terms.
  • Preparing and issuing invoices for operational costs, such as storage, cargo handling, and port services.
  • Managing and overseeing accounts receivable, ensuring timely payments from clients and resolving disputes related to outstanding invoices.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and reconciling bank accounts related to payments and collections.
  • Reviewing pricing structures for freight and local charges to ensure competitive and accurate tariff applications.
  • Ensuring all transactions comply with national and international maritime industry regulations.
  • Presenting economic performance reports and analyzing profitability of operations.
  • Prepare step-by-step Walkthrough of Finance Policies and Manual including maintenance and updating to reflect the accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Supporting regions by aiding in adherence to framework of accounting and quality of reporting.
  • Maintaining integrity of the financial systems.
  • Support Internal team and Onshore team with your Knowledge of Financial Accounting.
  • Ensure accurate and effective financial information flows into One DA.
  • Training / coaching of finance community on systems, technical accounting, processes, and best practices


Key Deliverables:

  • Accurate, reliable and timely financial reporting in accordance with ISS deadlines.
  • Meet and maintain accepted accounting practices.
  • Successful internal/external tax audits (Follow-up and resolution to audit identified items)
  • Analytics to support Regional strategic initiatives
  • Ensure Data integrity


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, multitask and possess strong initiative, exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple competing priorities. Ability to balance multiple tasks, changing priorities & operate within a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to think logically, establish and follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.
  • Possess organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize, be detail oriented and results driven.
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, including strong verbal and listening skills.
  • Must have an advanced communication (verbal, written and listening) skills in order to communicate at different levels throughout the organization and with exterior organizations, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required in English. Bilingual, fluent in English & Spanish preferred.
  • Must possess an advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.


Education, Qualifications, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accountancy, Business Administration or a related major in a public or accredited private academic institution desired but not required.
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in a similar position/industry
  • Prior port agency (shipping services) experience with exposure to various commodities preferred but not required.
  • Experience working within complex international organizations.
