General Area of Responsibility

The ACP Technical Manager is the key leader responsible and accountable for the overall performance of Svitzer’s technical service delivery to the Autoridad del Canal de Panamá (ACP). This high-impact role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable tugs operations while driving financial performance and maintaining a strong partnership with ACP.

As the primary technical authority in this contract, the ACP Technical Manager is tasked with leading and optimizing the performance of the technical team, ensuring seamless coordination between Svitzer personnel, ACP shore-based staff, and onboard crews. The role is critical in maintaining operational continuity, upholding the highest safety standards, and delivering on Svitzer / ACP contract annual targets.

Success in this role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and strategic oversight to meet or exceed operational, safety, and financial goals. The ACP Technical Manager ensures excellence and accountability while reinforcing Svitzer’s position as a trusted partner to ACP.

Specific Area Of Responsibility

Your main tasks will be:

Contract & Client Management

  • Lead the day-to-day management of the hybrid Bareboat contract with ACP, ensuring full compliance with contractual terms.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for service delivery to ACP, maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring continuous satisfaction.
  • Provide timely reports on key financial, operational, and technical developments to internal and external stakeholders.

Technical & Operational Leadership

  • Ensure the continuous reliability of the vessel fleet, overseeing maintenance, repairs, classification, and flag state requirement.
  • Provide strategic direction and support to the Technical Team responsible for the maintenance of ACP-operated tugs.
  • Implement and uphold industry best practices in maintenance and operations to maximize fleet efficiency and longevity.
  • Drive risk management initiatives, proactively identifying, mitigating, and monitoring risks that could impact operational continuity or profitability of the contract.

Financial & Performance Oversight

  • Monitor contract finances and expenditures, ensuring alignment with forecasts and cost-efficiency.
  • Define and develop key strategic objectives and performance goals for the contract and direct reports.
  • Ensure the highest standards of safety and quality are met, fostering a strong safety culture.

Regulatory & Compliance Management

  • Monitor the regulatory landscape (local, national, and flag state) to ensure the company remains ahead of compliance requirements.

Required/Preferred Education

  • Minimum Bachelor`s level education on Maritime Academy, Engineering, Business or related courses.

Training & Competencies

  • Minimum 5 years in a Senior Technical position, ideally with exposure to client.
  • Management experience in both onshore and offshore environments preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written Spanish and English.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft office.
  • Financial savviness.
  • Good leadership and interpersonal skills, with initiative, prepared to make a difference and wear different hats in a small team.
  • Good communication skills across multiple levels in the organization and with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a global business environment with a strong sense of cultural diversity.
