Role Overview

The two primary purposes of the Material Planner are:

  • Planning Procurement – Execute all PO management functions with our key suppliers supporting a specific region. The individual must manage orders to ensure on time delivery to our in-house manufactures, as well as, third party facilities. The planner will manage purchase orders (POs) to minimize disruptions to the business and will resolve operational bottlenecks identified throughout the process, while escalating issues appropriately
  • Supplier Management -- Management of critical suppliers. This individual will interact with our supply base on a daily / weekly as a representative of the Estee Lauder Companies to drive mutual collaboration which will benefit the relationship between both parties.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • 30% Supplier Management -- Review of Supplier performance, Establish and facilitate daily / weekly operational meetings to ensure supplier production is in line with ELC demands.
  • 30% PO Management – Execute all aspects of the PO Management process (Creation, confirmation, expedite/de- expedite, and cancel) with the supply base. Track Pos from shipment to goods receipt and availability within our manufacturing partners. This includes life cycle management phasing in and out of components.
  • 10% Service Management – Escalation of any materials that are not aligned with ELC demands. Problem solves and work with the supplier to realign supply as well as quantify risk to the business.
  • 10% Supplier Performance – Monitor supplier performance and course correct when key metrics fall below acceptable levels.
  • 10% Work with Cross functional partners within the ELC supply chain. FG supply planning / Scheduling and Sourcing are key stakeholders to align our plans and keep updated on the progress of material supply.
  • 10% Material Life Cycle Management: Manage quality, destruction and liabilities of materials within the supply chain

Primary Tasks

  • Vendor Coordination: Negotiate with suppliers to meet delivery timelines. Resolve urgent issues like delivery delays or order volume changes to support material planners.
  • Material Visibility: Communicate any supplier delays, constraints, or operational bottlenecks to the Global MPS or TPM Planners.
  • Purchase Orders (POs): Handle the full PO process—placing, expediting, de-expediting, canceling, and tracking orders. Escalate issues when needed.
  • Order Management (EMQ): Manage the Order High / Order Low process.
  • Material Reallocation: Shift inventory between global distribution centers and sites as needed.
  • Inventory Control: Monitor material expiration dates, ensure proper labeling, and organize stock rotation and cycle counts.
  • Planning & Purchasing: Conduct material planning, confirm purchase requests, and issue or track POs to support production needs and maintain product availability.
  • Risk Management: Identify material/component supply risks and develop action plans to mitigate them.
  • Supplier Capacity: Validate long-term material needs and share forecasts with strategic suppliers. Work with the Global Sourcing team to confirm supplier capacity.
  • Supplier Reviews: Regularly review forecasts and demands with suppliers to spot and address potential future supply issues.
  • System Accuracy: Ensure planning parameters are current and accurate.
  • Product Transitions: Manage phase-in/phase-out of materials to reduce waste and avoid obsolete inventory.
  • Agility Improvements: Look for opportunities to improve responsiveness (e.g., reduce lead times) with suppliers.
  • Issue Resolution: Quickly resolve urgent supply issues, including changes in delivery speed or order quantities.
  • Cost Management: Work with schedulers and suppliers to handle order cancellations and any associated charges.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Supply Chain, Economics, Operations Research or related field
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience in Supply Chain, preferably with experience in material planning, supply planning, sourcing / purchasing and supplier management within the beauty / cosmetic industry
  • Deep knowledge of supplier management / collaboration, inventory management and procurement
  • Advanced knowledge of, and experience of raw material, packaging for beauty / cosmetic industry products
  • Advanced knowledge of, and experience with sourcing and supplier management activities for raw material / packaging suppliers within the beauty / cosmetic industry
  • Knowledge of, and experience with supply planning and supplier collaboration tools (e.g., SAP, E2Open, Kinaxis, etc.)

Capabilities

  • Knowledge of the interactions and interplays between supply and demand in the executional (0-2 months) and operational (2-12 month) horizons, with focus on material planning
  • Highly analytical – analyzes data and provides clear / fact-based presentations to stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, able to successfully manage multiple accountabilities simultaneously
  • Ability to build strong relationships and tactfully navigate multiple cross-functional, matrixed stakeholders
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and quick to react and respond to changes

  • Ability to work within a global, cross-functional team, collaborating with GSR, Planning, GBSC, Finance, Suppliers and Commercial Stakeholders.
